Be prepared for routine car care and emergency stops this winter!

There are two types of people in this world – those who have cars filled with endless amounts of de-icer, multiple ice scrapers and winter tyres at the ready, and those who always leave it until the last minute to prepare for winter driving.

Far too many of us have been in that irritating situation when our car windows are covered in thick ice and we’re stranded on our driveway for half an hour until it clears. It’s at these moments that our local retailers are our saviours!

car-care-1Help your customers safely tackle winter roads

As a retailer, you can help both prepared and unprepared drivers out by stocking a variety of winter car essentials in your store.

Small, local shops in particular could see an increasing number of drivers turn to them at short notice to help them safely tackle winter roads.

De-icer and ice scrapers are a must-have in your stock at the moment, but it’s also a great idea to include some extra items which your customers may not have originally considered.

car-care-2Snow & Ice Grips, which conveniently strap to the foot to increase grip in slippy conditions, are an excellent example.

Be sure to also have plenty of All-Season Screenwash on the shelves so that consumers are reminded to use nonfreezing screenwash in chilly conditions, something that’s particularly crucial when salt and sludgy snow can quickly soil our windscreens and reduce visibility.

Prepare yourself for winter learner drivers

Aside from products for car care, winter is a good opportunity to also stock up on items for learner drivers.

car-care-4Although it may not seem like the ideal time to learn to drive what with the risk of ice and snow, winter remains a reasonably popular time for learners because roads are often quieter, harsher weather conditions offer good opportunities to practice, and many driving schools provide Christmas and new year offers to potential students.

car-care-3Pairs of L-plates are always a handy item to have in stock because they’re absolutely essential to display on cars when learners are behind the wheel – one should be on the front of the car and one on the back. In much the same way that one sock from each pair always disappears, L-plates tend to be lost in the abyss of the car at random too, so emergency purchases of them are common.

Along with L-plates, consider stocking added extras like Highway Codes and AA Driving Test Practical and Theory Books, which always tend to grab the eye of learners who are eager to study and pass their tests with flying colours.
